Patek Philippe 5207/1P Platinum Bracelet

When it comes to high-end watch collecting, Patek Philippe is a name that represents the pinnacle of craftsmanship. Among its most iconic pieces is the 5207 series, a dream watch for collectors worldwide. Today, Aristo is excited to showcase two extraordinary timepieces worth over HKD $10 million: the salmon-dial 5207/1P Platinum Bracelet and the 5207P Platinum Leather Strap. The platinum bracelet version is particularly special—so rare that it was once thought to be the only one of its kind and even part of a royal collection.

Patek Philippe 5207: A Masterpiece of Complications and Craftsmanship

The 5207 series is one of Patek Philippe’s most prestigious models, featuring three major complications in a 41mm case:

  1. Tourbillon
  2. Minute Repeater
  3. Instantaneous Perpetual Calendar

The instantaneous perpetual calendar allows the day, date, month, and leap year indicators to change simultaneously at midnight. This not only adds to the technical complexity but also makes production significantly more challenging and costly.

On the craftsmanship side, the back of the watch reveals the intricate tourbillon mechanism, while the hand-engraved grooves on the lugs and minute repeater slide add a touch of elegance. A closer look at the grooves shows fine hammering details, enhancing its overall texture and quality.

Currently, only the white gold 5207G is still in production. The 5207P Platinum Leather Strap was first introduced at Basel World 2008 and produced until 2016. With an estimated annual production of just 10 pieces, the total number of 5207P leather strap versions likely doesn’t exceed 100 pieces.

The Exclusive Platinum Bracelet Version: 5207/1P

The Patek Philippe 5207/1P features an ultra-rare platinum bracelet and an exhibition back showcasing the tourbillon.

While the leather strap 5207P is already rare, the platinum bracelet 5207/1P is even more exceptional. Unlike the platinum bracelet of the Nautilus 5711/1P, the 5207/1P bracelet has a slimmer design that highlights the shape of the case.

Platinum is a notoriously hard material to work with, making it far more expensive and difficult to craft than other precious metals. Creating a platinum bracelet is even more challenging than crafting a case. This is why Patek Philippe’s platinum bracelet watches are incredibly rare, and the 5207/1P may very well be a one-of-a-kind creation.

5207/1P: Not the “Only One”

The 5207/1P Platinum Bracelet made its debut at a 2021 Antiquorum auction in Hong Kong, where it sold for an impressive HKD $10,110,000. Its story is even more fascinating because it was previously owned by Sultan Qaboos bin Said of Oman, the country’s longest-reigning monarch.

Sultan Qaboos was known for his extensive collection of luxury watches, many of which were custom-made with unique “Middle Eastern dials” to reflect his status. At the time, the auction house described the 5207/1P as “the only 5207 with a platinum bracelet ever made,” suggesting it was a special commission for the Sultan.

However, after comparing movement numbers, we’ve confirmed that the 5207/1P we have today is not the same as the one sold at auction. This discovery breaks the myth of it being “the only one” but also highlights how rare this model truly is. To date, apart from the auctioned piece and the one in our hands, no other examples have been found.
